Hey!
Did you notice that I didn't send out my weekly newsletter last week? Truthfully, it was because I was feeling lost, burnt out, and lacking direction. For context, there has been an increase in censorship that I've been dealing with on YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok. Each year, the censorship gets more sophisticated and restrictive.
This time around, it's left me feeling like I need to rethink what I'm doing with Cannabinista and what is the most strategic way for me to continue doing what I love to do - which is helping people create healthier relationships with cannabis through modern education.
I've battled censorship for years, but this time it hits different because this is now my full-time job. On top of that, I was building so much momentum recently with my YouTube content, that I wanted to take advantage of the new audience I was reaching.
Censorship on short form platforms pushed me to start creating long form content on YouTube and Podcasts at the beginning of this year, and this journey is just getting started. The podcasting world seems to be OK with cannabis content (for now) and YouTube shorts have been allowing for canna content (fingers crossed this lasts).
So what now? What am I going to do?
- I'm focusing 90% of my time and energy on long form, specifically prioritizing podcasting and YouTube. YouTube still isn't the best place for cannabis content, but so far the videos I've uploaded have passed their sniff test (because there is zero consumption shown). Follow me on Spotify or Apple.
- The content you'll see on IG and TikTok will start to look different – but for the better. I'll save you the details, but you'll notice some changes soon. I’ll continue to show up daily in the stories, as that seems to be the only place that I can post freely 😒
- I'm relaunching my website September 2024. With the re-launch, my website will be infinitely better than the junk I have right now 😅 The new website will provide an experience that makes it easier and more fun to learn about your favourite plant.
- You'll start to see me posting on X .Whether you like Musk or not, ever since he took over, cannabis content has been thriving over there. Follow me on X.
So that's the game plan for the rest of the year. I'm excited, optimistic, and nervous, all at the same time.
