Happy Cali Sober January!

Happy New Year, Canna Fam! šŸ˜ I hope you all had a wonderful 2023 and that your 2024 is off to a great start. Can you believe weā€™re already a week into January?! January is such an interesting month to me because we spend all this time with family and friends in December, that by the time January rolls around, I feel like I need some time to recover from all the holiday madness! But then everyone is already talking about new years resolutions and goals and iā€™d be lying if I said it didnā€™t make me anxious. If youā€™re feeling the same as me, donā€™t worry ā€” weā€™re in this together and youā€™re not alone. Take the time you need to recharge, reorganize, and recalibrate.

#DryJanuary is a trending topic right now on social media but also a really exciting time for me, because I get to create all these amazing alcohol-free recipes for yā€™all! I've been alcohol-free for three years, and it's hands down the best call I've made. I like to call myself ā€œcali-soberā€, which basically refers to someone who doesnā€™t drink, but enjoys consuming the green. Alcohol used to be my party go-to, but the aftermath was too much. Creating mocktails allowed me to partake on the fun, while avoiding hangovers and feeling refreshed the next day.

On that note, Iā€™m going to leave you with two cannabis infused mocktail recipes ā€” a way to still get lifted, but without the hangover šŸŒæ

Cannabis In The News

Study Shows Evidence that CBD-Infused Tampons May Be Effective for Treating Menstrual Pain

  • Studies like this are super exciting to me because it shows the innovation in cannabis products! This study was only done on 63 participants so it is a small sample size. Iā€™d love to see further research on CBD infused tampons or even transdermal CBD patches that can be placed onto a womanā€™s abdomen/lower body area. Iā€™d love to see this study taken beyond just 63 individuals!

Study: Cannabis can make workouts more fun, but itā€™s no performance-enhancer

  • This article published by The University of Colorado is certainly interesting in terms of cannabis and exercise research, but the headline is misleading. This study was only conducted on 42 runners yet the headline seemed like click-bait and worded too definitively. How can a study on only 42 individuals, and only studied in the context of running, constitute a headline that refers to workouts in general? Iā€™d love to see this study re-done on a broader group of individuals and also considering other exercise and sports such as yoga, weight lifting, etc.
  • Thousands of you have shared with me via social media that you find cannabis does enhance/alter your workout routine. Of course, my social media is not a research institute by any means, but based on anecdotal feedback from the Cannabinista community, it sounds like yā€™all have a different opinion than this study!

Becoming alcohol free is much easier said than done. It definitely took my a few tries and slips to get my mind focused on why I wanted to stop drinking rather than simply telling myself to stop. This is why Iā€™m sharing a few tips that will truly make all the difference during this time. I hope they help. Cheers to an alcohol free month with yummy mocktails!
