On a personal note… I’ve been in spring cleaning mode and I finally found the perfect organizer for all my cannabis — it’s not 100% scent proof, but it stashes away my goods in a cabinet that matches the interior of my space. Inside each tier, I have all my dank inside my Ongrok storage jarsthat are child and scent-proof (CANNABINISTA for 15% off). If you’re curious about the cabinet, you can check it out on my storefront ✨

Bekah from 📍 Minnesota, USA asks…
Q: If I’m a singer wanting to protect my voice, can I still smoke? I love eddies and bevvies but want to explore more! I know cigs are crazy harmful to vocal cords, is cannabis?
A: I came across this interesting 2019 review that looked at cannabis inhalation and voice disorders. The only study to date that has evaluated the association between laryngeal symptoms and inhaling cannabis found that human smokers exhibited dark vocal folds. WTH is a dark vocal fold you might ask 😂 According to the Sean Parker Institute for Voice, it’s when physical stress can cause blood which then can turn into patches on the vocal fold. Over time, as the blood resorbs, it undergoes the same changes as a bruise, turning darker red to brown and eventually fading.
Analyses of science and animal articles indicated that cannabis smoking was associated with lung and throat injuries attributable to smoking degradation by-products. The findings suggest that cannabis-only smoking is associated with changes in vocal fold appearance, respiratory symptoms, and negative lung function changes, especially in heavy smokers.
This is a really interesting and I would love to see more studies on the impact of vocal cords and throat. Personally for myself, I notice that the day after smoking cannabis joints my throat always feels slightly irritated and “off”. But when I use dried herb vaporizers, I don’t experience any issues. I try to opt for non-inhalation methods as my primary method of consumption (ie. edibles and infused drinks) as it gives me a personal peace of mind, with non-combustive methods as my secondary method(ie. using herb vaporizer like my PAX or my PuffCo e-rig for concentrates).

🗞️ This Week in Canna News: Americans Using Using Cannabis More Than Alcohol Daily?!
A recent study looked at 1.6M+ Americans across 27 surveys from 1979 to 2022 and found that reported cannabis use between 2008 and 2022, the per capita rate use increased by 120%, and days of use reported per capita increased by 218%. In 2022, the median drinker reported drinking on 4–5 days in the past month, versus 15–16 days in the past month for cannabis. In 2022, past-month cannabis consumers were almost four times as likely to report daily or near daily use.
This data is interesting because it might be correlated to the US changes in cannabis policy and more states legalizing in recent years. I’d be curious to see this study done on Canadians, as Canada is federally legalized. I wonder if this US trend is related to the declining consumption of alcohol due to the alcohol-free movement gaining popularity in recent years, and as more people understand the negative impacts of alcohol.
Occasionally, I’ll have a glass of natural wine or plum wine with a nice meal, but that’s pretty much it. I used to drink alot during my party phase, and decided to quit drinking in 2021 when I noticed the negative impacts to my health. I’m not the type of person to have alcohol at my house and I don’t use it as a way to help me alleviate any health issues. Whereas for cannabis, the reason why I use it throughout the week, is because it has a medicaland spiritual value for me. What’s your relationship with alcohol and cannabis like?
