Here’s to a Cozy Sesh…

I don’t know about you guys, but the past few weeks in Toronto have been COLD. I’m talking about -17C days that make it painful to step outside, which of course makes smoking a jay that much less enjoyable. That’s why I will shamelessly get my indoor seshes in the comfort of my own apartment, and nope, I have not received any negative remarks from my neighbours so I’m here to share my secrets on how you can get away with it too:

“How Can I Build A Healthy Relationship With Cannabis?”

This is a question I get A LOT.

Establishing a positive relationship with cannabis centres around defining clear boundaries and adhering to them. I became aware of what an unhealthy association with weed was before discovering the right approach.

Like many, my initial encounter with the plant was during university, where it was often misused and misconstrued as a harmless substance. However, the prevailing stigma reminds us that this isn't always the case, and cannabis use can potentially foster unhealthy habits, mistakenly lumping enthusiasts into the category of addicts.

These are six boundaries that have kept me on track the past few years, I hope they help you too!

Over the weekend, I tried out my new ONGROK infuser and toothless grinder to whip up some cannaoil, and I have to say, I'm impressed. The grinder operates seamlessly, maintaining a clean and fresh appearance even after a few uses. Meanwhile, the infuser was a breeze to use and effectively kept my apartment odor-free throughout the process. If you're considering getting these for yourself, I suggest using my code at checkout for a 15% discount on your order.

Cannabis in The News: An Overview

  • Nova Scotia is Getting Lit: Canadians are cutting back on trips to the beer fridge, with alcohol sales down 2.8% from last year. According to Sylvain Charlebois from Dalhousie University’s Agri-Food Lab, factors like health concerns, erratic weather, successful dry campaigns, and the rising cost of living contribute to the decline. In Nova Scotia, however, locally-produced alcohol is thriving, and cannabis sales are on the rise, with a 7.3% increase in volume sold, possibly influenced by the legalization of cannabis four years ago. Despite the reduction in alcohol sales, Terah McKinnon from the Nova Scotia Liquor Commission notes that it's bringing their numbers back into the pre-pandemic range.
  • America Hits 2.3 Million Cannabis Expungements: Can I just say… About time?! The article talks about America hitting 2.3 million cannabis expungements, which is a great move towards correcting past injustices. It's about time we see this progress happening. However, I'm curious about Canada's situation – there's no info on how we're doing. I'd personally like to know what the Canadian government is up to in terms of cannabis expungements.
  • Cannabis Cafes in California May Rise From the Ashes: The article discusses the potential resurgence of cannabis cafes in California, and I'm all for it. Having visited some cafes in LA in 2023, I can attest to the positive experiences they offer. It would be fantastic to see more of these cafes allowed in legalized states and countries, especially if they prioritize education and provide a unique cannabis experience.
  • Impact of Non-Medical Cannabis Legalization on Psychotic Disorder Cases in Ontario: I find this study intriguing, particularly its examination of the effects of non-medical cannabis legalization on psychotic disorders in Ontario from 2014 to 2020. Despite initial tight regulations post-legalization, there was no immediate increase in health service use or incident cases of psychotic disorders. However, I'm eager to see more up-to-date data and an extended observation period that includes the expansion of the commercial cannabis market. I'll be following this research closely to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the long-term population-level impacts.
