Hey!
This week is a very special newsletter as I’ve launched my FREE tolerance break guide available for you to download! So many of you have asked me for tips on how to take a t-break, how to stay motivated, and why I even take t-breaks to begin with! I recommend watching my new video all about tolerance breaks first, and then use the guide to help you on your next break! There’s also a free journal template inside the guide that I used during my t-break to help me stay accountable.
In this week’s newsletter, I’ll also be…
☄️ discussing whether THC actually reduces inflammation
🇯🇵 exploring the changing cannabis market in Japan
👩🏻🏫 sharing lessons I learned from my 45 day cannabis t-break
✋🏻 Jessica from 📍 Pefferlaw, Ontario Canada asks…
Q: Do you believe that THC reduces inflammation?
A: Another great question that also has conflicting published evidence 😅 I swear I don’t know what to believe anymore! In some studies, THC has shown to reduce inflammation, but it others it doesn’t. CBD on the other hand, has been much more researched when it comes to it’s effect on inflammation, and we know that CBD has anti-inflammatory effects.
A 2021 Australian study found that CBD, CBG, and CBD+THC in combination exert anti-inflammatory effect in living organisms, whereas THC alone does not reduce pro-inflammatory or increase anti-inflammatory cytokines. However in a 2022 study, they found that in multiple models both in vitro and in vivo, several cannabinoids including THC, CBD, and CBG exhibit activity against inflammation. These cannabinoids may bind to ECS (endocannabinoid system) and/or other receptors and improve various inflammatory-related diseases by activating several pathways. Synergy between cannabinoids and terpeneswas demonstrated. Another 2008 study also found that beta-carophyllene, which is found certain cannabis plants, activates the CB2 receptor which is involved in anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive actions.
Some research also talks about the entourage effect, which is a belief that if you use multiple cannabinoids together, you can enhance the “benefits” from the plant. This hasn’t been fully proven out yet, but alot of cannabis users report this anecdotally. CBD is because it’s more mainstream due to the fact that it does not have intoxicating effects (but it’s still psychoactive), and has been predominantly been legal across the US. On the flip side, THC can be intoxicating and is not federally legalized, thus creating a barrier for research.

🌿 3 Lessons I Learned From My Tolerance Break
This week’s content is all about tolerance breaks! Earlier in the year, I took a 45 day break away from cannabis. I share the science behind taking a t-break, 5 reasons why you might want to take one, how to actually take a successful break and stay committed. Watch the video on YouTube or listen on Spotify or Apple podcasts.
🗞️ Japan Moving Forward With Cannabis Reform
Just two weeks ago, the Japanese government announced that it would be accepting public comments on the new cannabis reform bill. The proposal suggests that Japan is looking to become the first country to approve CBD in food (imagine all the infused sushi 🍣 and matcha 🍵)! Japan already has a CBD industry, but does not allow for any trace of THC. This might change with the new reform— where reports are suggesting that THC content could increase to 0.3%.
This is so exciting and I am hoping that Japan will set an example for other Asian countries. Cannabis consumption is often frowned upon amongst traditional Asian countries, so this is personally very important for me. I hope Japan shows progressive policies when it comes to the cannabis industry, as this could be a great tourism opportunity for them. I’ll keep an eye out on this exciting topic — and I’ll keep y’all posted on any updates!
