About The Recipe
Cannabis oil and smoothies just go together. It’s a great way to mask the cannabis oil taste, while enjoying a tasty refreshing drink. As long as the smoothie you’re making uses a liquid that contains fats, you’ll be able to absorb the benefits of the cannabinoids. Remember, cannabinoids are lipid which means they need to bind to fat compounds to ensure absorption and efficiency.
Where Did Smoothies Come From?
Smoothies have been around for quite some time but the term itself only really came into fruition in the 1960s when the first big health trend started taking off. During this time, the concept of blending fruits and veggies into a creamy, nutritious drink became more mainstream and as blenders became more and more accessible, the fad grew.
The 90s were also a big turning point for smoothie culture as smoothie bars and chains like Booster Juice and Jamba Juice were born. They popularized smoothies as a convenient and healthy option for many people. While the basic idea of blending fruits and liquids has been around for quite a lot of time now, the smoothie that we know and love today is really a product of the latter half of the 20th century and all of the health crazes and fads that came with it.
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
- No Cannabis Taste — A lot of the time you’ll find that infused foods and drinks may taste a little bit like the plant which for some people is not ideal. Don’t worry though, this delicious smoothie tastes like nothing other than chocolatey goodness!
- Dairy-Free — Fruity and creamy at the same time but without the dairy!
Ingredient Substitutions
- Almond Milk: You can use any type of dairy free milk or regular milk. I like using almond milk, coconut milk, cashew milk, or oat milk for my smoothies. I recommend using unsweetened nut milk because the fruits will already be sweet enough.
- Cannabis oil: You can use any type of cannabis oil you have at home. It doesn’t matter what carrier oil is used. I recommend using an olive oil or MCT oil as the taste is more neutral and will blend well with the smoothie. Infused coconut oil is a great option too!
- Fruits: You can literally make this recipe with any fruit combination — the options are endless! Strawberry banana, mango banana, anything with banana will taste amazing.
TIPS & TRICKS
- Add ice to your smoothie for a more thick ice-like texture. Add more nut milk for a more thin smoothie texture.
- Chill your nut milk before using in the smoothie.

FAQ
Q: What if I don’t like bananas can I use something else?
A: I know some people don’t love the taste of bananas and their flavour can be very powerful in drinks. Feel free to substitute the banana for another type of fruit you like better - but be wary of the cannabis taste that might present itself!
Q: How long will this smoothie take to kick in?
A: Cannabis beverages are considered to be cannabis edibles, which means that they have to be ingested and processed by your liver before heading up to your blood brain barrier. The onset of cannabis edibles can range from person to person, and can also be impacted by a variety of factors, such as one’s metabolism. Generally cannabis infused bevies can take anywhere from 30 minutes all the way to 2 hours for the onset, and the experience can last between 4 to 12 hours.
Q: Do I have to use dairy-free milk?
A: You definitely don’t have to use dairy-free milk, I just prefer the taste it adds to my beverages. If you want some extra calcium and vitamins feel free to swap the dairy-free milk to regular cows milk.
