About The Recipe

Some people might think I’m crazy in making cannabis infused bubble tea, but some may say it’s a genius invention. I started making my own bubble tea this past year because I was tired of bubble tea places not offering dairy free or alternative sweetener options. Every time that I would purchase bubble tea, I would have to make a sacrifice knowing that I would most likely get an upset stomach after drinking all that dairy. Then one day it hit me — why don’t I just make my own bubble tea?! That way, I can use whatever dairy free milk I want, and can sweeten it with natural sweeteners like maple syrup or honey. On top of that, I can also infuse my bubble teas with cannabis oil! Keep on reading to see how you can make your own cannabis infused bubble tea at home!

Where Did Bubble Tea Come From?

Bubble tea, originally known as "Boba tea," traces its roots back to the 1980s in Taiwan. Its creation is attributed to an inventive tea shop owner who combined freshly brewed tea with sweetened milk and added chewy tapioca pearls to create a delightful beverage with a playful twist. Since then, this beloved drink has taken the world by storm, captivating taste buds everywhere with its endless flavour possibilities.

Within your tea, you can find tapioca pearls, known for their gummy and chewy texture, which have an interesting backstory too. Originating in Brazil, these pearls come from the cassava root, a starchy tuber cultivated by indigenous communities for centuries. Portuguese explorers eventually brought cassava to Asia, where it quickly became a staple in various cuisines, including the creation of those delightful tapioca pearls we find in bubble tea today.

  • Maple Syrup: Maple syrup is one of my favourite natural sweeteners as the taste meshes will with alot of different beverages. Other alternatives include honey, monkfruit, stevia, or agave syrup.
  • Tapioca Balls: You can purchase tapioca balls from your local asian grocery store or even online on Amazon. If possible, get your hands on tapioca balls that are not black and are clear/translucent. These ones are less processed and don’t have additives/food colouring in them.

Step 1: Calculate Potency For Your Infusion

Calculate total batch potency by entering product weight (grams), THC/THCA percentage, and CBD/CBDA percentage. Get total THC and CBD in milligrams (mg) for dosing.

(flower, wax, oil, etc)

THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is the psychoactive compound in cannabis, while THCA (tetrahydrocannabinolic acid) is its non-psychoactive precursor found in raw cannabis

CBD (cannabidiol) is a psychoactive compound in cannabis known for its potential therapeutic benefits, while CBDA (cannabidiolic acid) is the precursor to CBD found in raw cannabis, which needs to be decarboxylated (heated) to become CBD with active properties.

(ie. butter, olive oil, coconut oil, MCT oil, alcohol)
