About The Recipe

The one thing I love about the holidays is getting to make and drink egg nog! I’ve always loved egg nog as a child, and I remember drinking it straight from the carton, standing next to the fridge. Now that I’m older, not only am I drinking egg nog, but i’m making it from scratch… and infusing it with cannabis!

Technically this recipe isn’t a real “egg” nog, but it tastes very similar to one, and is vegan and dairy free. In this recipe, I directly infused dried cannabis flower into dairy free milk for the infusion, but you can also use cannabis infused oil or dissolvable cannabis powder for the infusion.

What is Egg Nog?

While my recipe isn’t exactly egg nog, it tastes very similar! Traditional eggnog is a rich and creamy beverage typically consumed during the holidays. It’s made with eggs, milk or cream, sugar and spices and is often enjoyed with alcohol (run or bourbon) mixed in.

It has a history that dates back to medieval Europe but the version we know and love today became popular in the American colonies in the 18th century. Its mostly popular in the United States and Canada and its festive and spiced flavour makes it a great holiday drink.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Naturally sweetened — maple syrup is an excellent natural sweetener that contains less fake sugar additives to it
  • A Holiday party staple — This recipe will be a hit at your next holiday party especially since it’ll fit anybody’s dietary restrictions!

Ingredient Substitutions

  • Whipped Cream: This part can be optional if you decide you don’t want it but I do also have an infused whipped cream recipe that would be a great edition if you want to elevate your infusion game.
  • Maple Syrup: I love using maple syrup to sweeten recipes more naturally but feel free to use simple syrup as a substitute.

TIPS & TRICKS

  • While I’m infusing the milk directly with my LEVO C, feel free to simply add cannabis oil to the milk for a similar infusion.
  • Adding some festive sprinkles on top of your whipped cream would be an easy and festive addition to the recipe!

FAQ

Q: Does this recipe really taste like real eggnog?

A: While my recipe is missing some of the traditional ingredients for eggnog, I honestly think it tastes extremely similar if not even better than regular eggnog. Plus if you’re someone who has a hard time with dairy, this alternative recipe is perfect!

Q: How long does this eggnog take to kick in?

A: Cannabis beverages are considered to be cannabis edibles, which means that they have to be ingested and processed by your liver before heading up to your blood brain barrier. The onset of cannabis edibles can range from person to person, and can also be impacted by a variety of factors, such as one’s metabolism. Generally cannabis beverages can take anywhere from 30 minutes all the way to 2 hours for the onset, and the experience can last between 4 to 12 hours.

Q: Do I have to drink this during the holidays?

A: Absolutely not! You can have this drink anytime of the year, but generally, people love to drink it around the holidays because of the cozy spiced flavour it brings.

Step 1: Calculate Potency For Your Infusion

Calculate total batch potency by entering product weight (grams), THC/THCA percentage, and CBD/CBDA percentage. Get total THC and CBD in milligrams (mg) for dosing.

(flower, wax, oil, etc)

THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is the psychoactive compound in cannabis, while THCA (tetrahydrocannabinolic acid) is its non-psychoactive precursor found in raw cannabis

CBD (cannabidiol) is a psychoactive compound in cannabis known for its potential therapeutic benefits, while CBDA (cannabidiolic acid) is the precursor to CBD found in raw cannabis, which needs to be decarboxylated (heated) to become CBD with active properties.

(ie. butter, olive oil, coconut oil, MCT oil, alcohol)

Step 2: Calculate Potency Of Each Serving/Edible

Determine the potency per serving in your recipe by specifying the number of tablespoons of oil and the total servings. This calculation will yield the milligrams (mg) of THC and CBD in the entire recipe, as well as the amount per serving.
