What is French Toast?

Funnily enough, the first recorded recipe of french toast dates way further back than France itself and it was actually Americans who popularized the recipe after renaming it French Toast. The first known recipe for french toast comes from Rome around 300 A.D and for a long time it was actually called “Roman Bread.” For a lot of people, it was a great way to use up stale bread before it went bad - but today, it’s more of a sweet treat than anything!

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • A healthier take on a sweet treat— I always like to use the cleanest ingredients I can find so you can bet that this recipe is just a touch cleaner than many of the french toast recipes out there.
  • Easy to make, mess-free, and odour-free
  • Customizable: This recipe is very customizable and can cater to your needs whatever they may be. Change up the fruit, the infusion method or any of the other toppings and make it just the way you like it!

Ingredient Substitutions

  • Fresh Fruit: I like to use berries to top my french toast but you can use whatever fruit you’d like!
  • Cannabis Infused Whipped Cream: Adding the infused whipped cream to the top of your French Toast is a great way to add some extra elevation to your dish but it’s not necessary! Feel free to use regular whipped cream or none at all - whatever you prefer.
  • Milk/Dairy-free Milk: This recipe can be modified based on your dairy or dairy-free preferences. Even if you’re not dairy free but you prefer dairy alternatives at times, try out the recipe with a different type of milk and see how it changes the flavor of the french toast!

TIPS & TRICKS

  • I’d recommend using a nice dark maple syrup to mask the herb taste that may be present from your infused butter.

Recipe

SERVINGS: 2

TIME REQUIRED: 15 mins

INGREDIENTS

  • 4-8 slices of brioche or white bread (I personally like to use flax & chia seed bread for the nutritional benefits but it does not taste as good)
  • 2 tbsp cannabis infused butter
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ cup milk or dairy-free milk
  • 2 tbsps maple syrup
  • 1 cup fresh fruit (I like to use berries)
  • Cannabis infused whipping cream

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Heat up a large nonstick pan to medium heat.
  2. Once the pan is warm, add cannabis infused butter and allow it to gradually melt. Depending on the potency of your cannabutter, you may choose to use half regular butter and half cannabutter.
  3. In a wide bowl, whisk together egg, milk, vanilla extract and cinnamon. This will be your french toast batter.
  4. Dip slices of bread into the batter and lay flat on the pan. Repeat for all pieces of bread.
  5. Allow the slices of bread to pan fry for 3-4 minutes or until medium golden brown. Flip the slices of bread and repeat.
  6. Once the french toast is finished cooking, stack the slices on top of each other onto a plate.
  7. Top off with cannabis infused whipping cream, fresh fruit, and maple syrup.
  8. Enjoy!

Step 1: Calculate Potency For Your Infusion

Calculate total batch potency by entering product weight (grams), THC/THCA percentage, and CBD/CBDA percentage. Get total THC and CBD in milligrams (mg) for dosing.

(flower, wax, oil, etc)

THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is the psychoactive compound in cannabis, while THCA (tetrahydrocannabinolic acid) is its non-psychoactive precursor found in raw cannabis

CBD (cannabidiol) is a psychoactive compound in cannabis known for its potential therapeutic benefits, while CBDA (cannabidiolic acid) is the precursor to CBD found in raw cannabis, which needs to be decarboxylated (heated) to become CBD with active properties.

(ie. butter, olive oil, coconut oil, MCT oil, alcohol)
