What is Oatmeal?

Oatmeal, a cherished breakfast essential with a storied history, traces its origins back to ancient civilizations. Oats were initially cultivated in the Fertile Crescent of the Middle East around 2000 BCE and gradually found their way across Europe. The popularity of oatmeal burgeoned in Scotland, where it became a dietary cornerstone and later disseminated to North America with European immigrants.

In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, oatmeal garnered recognition as a nutritious and cost-effective breakfast choice. The Quaker Oats Company played a pivotal role in shaping its wholesome image, popularizing the convenient rolled oats that are familiar today. Oatmeal's nutritional virtues, including a high fibre content, complex carbohydrates, and a spectrum of vitamins and minerals, contribute to its widespread acclaim.

Its adaptability and versatility in various preparations, from sweet to savoury, cater to diverse taste preferences. Whether enjoyed as a warm porridge or incorporated into baked goods, oatmeal has not only endured the passage of time but has evolved into a global culinary mainstay appreciated for its health benefits and flexibility.

Ingredient Substitutions

  • Almond Milk: Use any dairy free milk, or even regular cows milk that you like.
  • Sprouted Oats: I like to use sprouted oats because it’s easier on my digestive system. I also recommend steel cut oats or rolled oats. If you can, opt for organic and gluten-free oats.
  • Hemp & Chia Seeds: These healthy plant-based fats are a great addition to breakfast oats. When chia seeds expand, they turn into a slightly chewy texture which I love for oatmeal!
  • Cinnamon Powder: I like to use cinnamon powder to neutralize some of the “oat” taste.
  • Maple Syrup: If you don’t have maple syrup, substitute for honey or any other granulated sugar. I prefer the taste of maple syrup with my oats personally. You can also use monkfruit or stevia as a keto substitute. Feel free to elevate your infusion level with my infused maple syrup recipe!
  • Banana & Frozen Berries: These are my favourite fruits to put into oatmeal because they’re affordable and easy to find at the grocery store.
  • Peanut Butter: Substitute for any nut or seed butter, or leave out if you want!
  • Almond Slivers: This is a purely optional ingredient — it won’t affect the flavour of your oats, but it adds a nice crunch to each bite!
  • Coconut Flakes: Also an optional ingredient — adds a nice subtle coconut flavour and enhances the beauty of your oatmeal bowl.
  • Cannabis Oil: Feel free to use CBD, THC or both! I used an organic olive oil, but you can also use MCT oil or coconut oil.

TIPS & TRICKS

  • Microwave your frozen berries as this is going to help defrost your berries and release the berry juices. A soft warm berry is much more enjoyable than a hard icy frozen one.

FAQ

Q: Can I change the toppings to something I like better?

A: Absolutely! You don’t have to use bananas or berries or even peanut butter. Feel free to use a seasonal fruit or any other topping you might like!

Q: How long does this recipe take to kick in?

A: Cannabis oatmeal is considered to be a cannabis edible, which means that it has to be ingested and processed by your liver before heading up to your blood brain barrier. The onset of cannabis edibles can range from person to person, and can also be impacted by a variety of factors, such as one’s metabolism. Generally cannabis edibles can take anywhere from 30 minutes all the way to 2 hours for the onset, and the experience can last between 4 to 12 hours.

Q: Is this a filling enough breakfast?

A: Because of all the added seeds, peanut butter and even milk in this recipe which are higher in protein, I find this oatmeal to be a very filling morning breakfast. Of course, if you wanted to add even more protein you could always add in a scoop or two of protein powder but honestly, this recipe is very nourishing and filling already!

Step 1: Calculate Potency For Your Infusion

Calculate total batch potency by entering product weight (grams), THC/THCA percentage, and CBD/CBDA percentage. Get total THC and CBD in milligrams (mg) for dosing.

(flower, wax, oil, etc)

THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is the psychoactive compound in cannabis, while THCA (tetrahydrocannabinolic acid) is its non-psychoactive precursor found in raw cannabis

CBD (cannabidiol) is a psychoactive compound in cannabis known for its potential therapeutic benefits, while CBDA (cannabidiolic acid) is the precursor to CBD found in raw cannabis, which needs to be decarboxylated (heated) to become CBD with active properties.

(ie. butter, olive oil, coconut oil, MCT oil, alcohol)
