About Coconut Oil

Coconut oil, a culinary marvel with a rich history, has stood the test of time for good reason. Originating in tropical regions, it quickly became a kitchen staple due to the abundance of coconuts and their versatile applications. Historically, it was valued not just for its distinctive flavour but also for its numerous health benefits.

Packed with medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs), coconut oil is celebrated for its potential to boost energy, aid in digestion, and even contribute to heart health. Fast forward to today, and its popularity has skyrocketed, especially in the realm of cannabis infusion. The high fat content in coconut oil makes it an ideal carrier for cannabinoids, enhancing their bioavailability.

Whether you're crafting edibles, sautéing vegetables, or simply spreading it on toast, coconut oil's neutral taste and versatility make it the go-to choice for elevating both your culinary creations and your well-being.

Ingredient Substitutions

  • Coconut Oil: I recommend using an organic unrefined coconut oil that is solid at room temperature. The less processed your coconut oil is, the more nutritional value and benefits it will contain.

TIPS & TRICKS

  • Coconut oil can be easily melted and solidified. To melt coconut oil, simply microwave it or run the container under boiling hot water. To solidify coconut oil, allow it to cool on the countertop, or place it in the fridge for a faster process.

Notes:

  • I used 2.5 grams of dried flower (Pink Kush) that contained 22.5% THC and 0% CBD. Using my cannabis calculator, I determined that the approximate potency of the cannabis coconut oil would be 15 mg of THC per teaspoon.
  • In order to make cannabis edibles at home, you first need to make cannabis infusions. Learn how to make cannabis-infused oil and butter with any LEVO cannabis infusion device. Use my link to get 10% off the LEVO infusion machines here.

FAQ

Q: What does cannabis coconut oil do for your skin?

A: When applied to the skin, cannabis coconut oil can be very nourishing and hydrating for dry and sensitive skin. With the added benefit of THC or CBD, cannabis topicals made with coconut oil has the ability to bind to the receptors found on the skin’s epidermal cells and sensory nerves. When a cannabis topical like cannabis coconut oil is applied, the cannabinoids bind to the receptors in these cells creating localized effects such as pain relief and/or anti inflammatory response. Cannabis coconut oil cannot penetrate the skin to reach the bloodstream. So unless cannabis coconut oil is ingested orally, you will not get high from just using it topically on your skin.

Q: What coconut oil is best for cannabis?

A: Unrefined and organic coconut oil is the best for making cannabis coconut oil infusions. Minimally processed coconut oil will be able to retain the most nutritional benefit.

Q: What does cannabis coconut oil do to your body?

A: When ingested orally, cannabis coconut oil provides the effects of a cannabis edible, such as a “high” feeling, euphoria and relaxation. Generally cannabis edibles take anywhere from 30 minutes up to 2 hours for one to feel the effects, and the experience can last between 4 to 12 hours.

Step 1: Calculate Potency For Your Infusion

Calculate total batch potency by entering product weight (grams), THC/THCA percentage, and CBD/CBDA percentage. Get total THC and CBD in milligrams (mg) for dosing.

(flower, wax, oil, etc)

THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is the psychoactive compound in cannabis, while THCA (tetrahydrocannabinolic acid) is its non-psychoactive precursor found in raw cannabis

CBD (cannabidiol) is a psychoactive compound in cannabis known for its potential therapeutic benefits, while CBDA (cannabidiolic acid) is the precursor to CBD found in raw cannabis, which needs to be decarboxylated (heated) to become CBD with active properties.

(ie. butter, olive oil, coconut oil, MCT oil, alcohol)
