About The Recipe
Matcha lattes are one of my favourite beverages to enjoy on a hot or cold day. Matcha is full of antioxidants and also contains caffeine, but provides a more calming caffeine experience than coffee. I especially love to infuse my matcha lattes with cannabis oil! Because matcha lattes are made with a fat based milk (dairy free or regular milk), it makes it super easy to infuse cannabis oil in to the beverage.
What is Matcha?
Matcha has been wowing taste buds for centuries in Japan, where it first appeared as a part of traditional tea ceremonies. This vibrant green powder is made by grinding shade-grown green tea leaves, packing it with a concentrated burst of nutrients.
Now, let's talk about its health perks! Packed with antioxidants, matcha is a true superfood that boosts our immune system and promotes overall well-being. Plus, it contains L-theanine, a natural amino acid that provides calm and focused energy without the jitters. So, not only does matcha taste amazing, but it's also a fantastic addition to your daily routine to keep you feeling fantastic both inside and out!
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
- Health benefits — matcha is packed with antioxidants and minerals that boost our immune systems big time
- Customizable — you’re welcome to use a sweetener of your choice along with a milk substitute of your choice! Do whatever tastes best to you.
Ingredient Substitutions
- Ceremonial Matcha Powder: Alot of food blogs will say that for drinks, you can use food-grade matcha powder. However, I much prefer ceremonial matcha powder, even though it is much more expensive. I find that food-grade matcha powder has no matcha taste and it often has a greenish brown colour, rather than a vibrant lust green colour.
- Dairy Free Milk: Any kind of milk will work for this recipe. As long as your milk or mylk contain fat in it, as that is what’s going to bind to the cannabinoids. For matcha lattes, I like to use oat or soy milk. I also recommend using an unsweetened milk because they’re usually sweetened with cane syrup which is a very processed form of sugar.
- Maple Syrup: This natural sweetener is totally optional but I find that I have to use it because matcha can be pretty bitter. If you don’t have maple syrup, you can also use stevia or monkfruit. Want to elevate your infusion? Try adding my cannabis infused maple syrup recipe.
- Cannabis Oil: Any cannabis oil will work for this recipe. You can use THC or CBD or a combination of both.
TIPS & TRICKS
- Make sure your hot water is below 175F. Anything hotter and I find that it can burn the matcha and alter the taste of your matcha.
- Use a shorter glass if you like a more concentrated latte or a tall glass if you prefer it to be milkier!

FAQ
Q: Where can I find matcha powder?
A: These days matcha powder is quite easy to find since it's become a very popular and almost “trendy” drink. Your local coffee shop is likely to have a decent quality matcha powder but if all fails, most grocery stores will have some that’ll do the trick.
Q: Can I make this beverage hot rather than iced?
A: You can definitely make this drink hot rather than cold! Instead of combining your milk, syrup and cannabis oil to cold milk in a glass and frothing, add it all to a pot on low-medium heat and front once warmed up. That’ll make the milk all frothy and hot for you to add to your powder mix.
Q: What temperature is ideal for making matcha?
A: 160°F will be the ideal temperature to create your matcha. Don’t let it go above 170°F as it might burn the matcha and change the flavour!
