About The Recipe

Cannabis-infused mocktails, like the cannabis-infused mimosa, have gained popularity as an alternative to alcoholic beverages, particularly in social settings where individuals may not want to consume alcohol but still want to enjoy a flavorful and relaxing drink.

To make a cannabis-infused mimosa mocktail, you would typically start with fresh orange juice as the base. Then, you can add sparkling water or soda to give it the bubbly texture characteristic of a mimosa. The cannabis infusion comes from either a cannabis-infused syrup or tincture, which is added to the mixture according to the desired potency. The syrup or tincture can be made using cannabis flower or concentrates and can be adjusted to suit individual preferences for flavour and potency.

What is a Mimosa?

The mimosa is a classic drink known for its simplicity and elegance. It's typically served in a champagne flute, making it visually appealing with its golden hue and effervescence.

The origins of the mimosa are often traced back to the 1920s or 1930s in Paris, France, where it became popular among the fashionable crowds frequenting the city's cafes and bistros. The cocktail's name is derived from the mimosa flower, known for its bright yellow blossoms and delicate scent. The vibrant colour of the mimosa cocktail resembles the cheerful hue of the mimosa flower, which likely inspired its name.

The classic mimosa recipe is straightforward: equal parts of champagne (or sparkling wine) and chilled citrus juice, most commonly orange juice. The champagne adds a touch of sophistication and effervescence, while the citrus juice provides a refreshing tanginess that balances out the sweetness of the champagne. The result is a light and bubbly cocktail that's perfect for brunches, bridal showers, and other festive occasions..

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Cultural and Artistic Expression: Cannabis-infused beverages have become a canvas for culinary artists and mixologists to showcase their creativity and craftsmanship.
  • Exploration of Terpenes: Cannabis contains aromatic compounds called terpenes, which contribute to its distinct flavours and aromas. Incorporating cannabis into a mimosa mocktail allows enthusiasts to explore the unique terpene profiles of different cannabis strains, adding complexity and depth to the “drinking” experience.
  • Exploration of Pairings: Just as with traditional cocktails, cannabis-infused mocktails offer an opportunity to explore flavour pairings and combinations. Enthusiasts can experiment with different cannabis strains and infusion methods to complement the flavours of the mimosa base, creating harmonious and balanced taste experiences.

Ingredient Substitutions

  • Orange Juice: You can really use whatever fruit juice you like, but for a classic mimosa recipe, opt for fresh orange juice.
  • Pear Juice: I chose pear juice as the substitute for champagne because they kind of have a similar taste. You could also substitute this for a non-alcoholic champagne if you want something more similar.
  • Sparkling Water: This will give your drink a bit of fizz to mimic real champagne.
  • Dissolvable Cannabis Powder: Must have ingredient for the infusion!

TIPS & TRICKS

  • I recommend chilling all the ingredients for at least an hour before making the drink. Yes you can always add ice when you're making the drink, but I like my drink extra cold!

FAQ

Q: Can I add regular sparkling wine to this recipe?

A: I would not recommend combining alcohol and cannabis as mixing the two tends to heighten the effects of both. Personally, I love going the mocktail route where I can infuse it with the best dose for me without having to worry about a hangover or any other unwanted effects the next day.

Q: How long will this mocktail take to kick in?

A: Cannabis beverages are considered to be cannabis edibles, which means that they have to be ingested and processed by your liver before heading up to your blood brain barrier. The onset of cannabis edibles can range from person to person, and can also be impacted by a variety of factors, such as one’s metabolism. Generally cannabis infused bevies can take anywhere from 30 minutes all the way to 2 hours for the onset, and the experience can last between 4 to 12 hours.

Q: Can I batch this recipe for a party?

A: You can certainly batch this recipe to a certain extent. I would recommend combining all of the ingredients aside from the dissolvable plant powder and sparkling water. Then you can allow guests to make the infusions themselves and finish off by topping their glass up with some fresh, crisp sparkling water.

Step 1: Calculate Potency For Your Infusion

Calculate total batch potency by entering product weight (grams), THC/THCA percentage, and CBD/CBDA percentage. Get total THC and CBD in milligrams (mg) for dosing.

(flower, wax, oil, etc)

THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is the psychoactive compound in cannabis, while THCA (tetrahydrocannabinolic acid) is its non-psychoactive precursor found in raw cannabis

CBD (cannabidiol) is a psychoactive compound in cannabis known for its potential therapeutic benefits, while CBDA (cannabidiolic acid) is the precursor to CBD found in raw cannabis, which needs to be decarboxylated (heated) to become CBD with active properties.

(ie. butter, olive oil, coconut oil, MCT oil, alcohol)

Step 2: Calculate Potency Of Each Serving/Edible

Determine the potency per serving in your recipe by specifying the number of tablespoons of oil and the total servings. This calculation will yield the milligrams (mg) of THC and CBD in the entire recipe, as well as the amount per serving.
