Why You’ll Love This Recipe
- Cultural and Artistic Expression: Cannabis-infused beverages have become a canvas for culinary artists and mixologists to showcase their creativity and craftsmanship.
- Exploration of Terpenes: Cannabis contains aromatic compounds called terpenes, which contribute to its distinct flavours and aromas. Incorporating cannabis into an espresso martini mocktail allows enthusiasts to explore the unique terpene profiles of different cannabis strains, adding complexity and depth to the “drinking” experience.
- Exploration of Pairings: Just as with traditional cocktails, cannabis-infused mocktails offer an opportunity to explore flavour pairings and combinations. Enthusiasts can experiment with different cannabis strains and infusion methods to complement the flavours of the espresso martini base, creating harmonious and balanced taste experiences.
Ingredient Substitutions
- Espresso: If you don’t have espresso on hand, you can use a strong brewed coffee instead. While it might not be as concentrated as espresso, it will still provide a rich coffee flavor that pairs well with the pumpkin and spices. Simply brew your coffee with a higher coffee-to-water ratio to make it stronger.
- Heavy Cream: Coconut cream is a dairy-free alternative that offers a rich, creamy texture similar to heavy cream. It adds a subtle coconut flavor that complements the pumpkin and maple syrup, making the drink slightly more tropical while maintaining its creamy consistency.
- Maple Syrup: Agave syrup is a great alternative to maple syrup, offering a milder sweetness with a lower glycemic index. It blends well with the other ingredients, providing a smooth, sweet flavor without overpowering the pumpkin and spices. This substitution works well in both the main drink and the whipped cream topping.
TIPS & TRICKS

FAQ
Q: Where Did the Pumpkin Spice Latte Come From?
A: The pumpkin spice latte as we know it was a product of the 80s and 90s push for signature, specialty coffee. While Starbucks likely didn’t actually invent the drink as they claim, their addition of it to their menu popularized the drink and now it's become one of the most popular fall drinks in the world.
Q: Is a Pumpkin Spice Latte Spicy?
A: No, even though there’s ‘spice’ in the title, pumpkin spice lattes are not spicy! They are typically made up of a blend of the spices found in pumpkin pie (nutmeg, allspice, cinnamon etc.) so if you’re not a fan of spicy things don’t worry - you’re safe with this one!
