What is Punch in the First Place?

Punch, with its simple yet delightful combination of fruit juices, spices, and sometimes a splash of alcohol, is a beverage that has stood the test of time. Its origins can be traced back to the early 17th century when British sailors voyaged to India and encountered a local concoction known as "paantsch."

This Indian beverage typically included five key ingredients: alcohol, sugar, lemon, water, and tea or spices. The British sailors adapted and popularized the concept, bringing it back to England. Soon, it became a sensation in Europe and America, with various recipes emerging over time. Punch bowls graced the tables of social gatherings and celebrations, offering a communal and convivial way to enjoy a drink.

The simplicity of mixing, the shared experience, and the endless possibilities for flavor combinations contributed to its enduring popularity. Today, punch remains a cherished addition to parties and gatherings, symbolizing the convivial spirit of togetherness and celebration.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • No Alcohol Hangover: Cannabis infused mocktails are the perfect way to have a social drink without the wicked hangover the next day!
  • Perfect Spooky Themed Beverage: A cannabis-infused mocktail called Witches Brew is the perfect addition to a Halloween party or even just to get yourself into the spooky spirit!
  • Alternative to Smoking: For those who prefer not to smoke cannabis, the mocktail offers an alternative method of consumption, allowing you to enjoy the effects through a refreshing, spicy beverage.

Ingredient Substitutions

  • Cranberry Juice: Pomegranate juice offers a similar tartness and deep red color as cranberry juice, making it a good substitute. It also adds a slightly sweeter and richer flavor, which can complement the other fruits in the punch. Additionally, pomegranate juice is packed with antioxidants, making your punch a bit more nutritious.
  • Lime: Grapefruit has a tangy and slightly bitter flavor, similar to lime, but with a more complex citrus profile. This substitution can add a unique twist to your fruit punch, offering a deeper citrus note. Grapefruit also pairs well with the other citrus fruits and berries in the punch, enhancing the overall flavor balance.

TIPS & TRICKS

  • A fun little extra step you can take is purchasing a spooky shaped glass or mug to put your spooky punch in! It’ll make it feel even more spooky and if you’re throwing a party, it adds a bit of extra thought and detail to the party.
  • Depending on how big of a batch you need, feel free to double the recipe or even cut it in half if you’re serving less or more people.

FAQ

Q: How Many Glasses Will This Recipe Yield?

A: Depending on how much you fill the glasses, this recipe should get you somewhere between 8 and 10 glasses! But feel free to double or triple the batch as needed.

Q: What if I Don’t Have Dissolvable Plant Powder?

A: Fear not, if you can’t find any dissolvable plant powder at your local cannabis store, it's actually very simple to make! You only need 3 ingredients, tapioca starch/flour, sunflower lecithin, and cannabis oil. Check out my easy recipe here.

Q: Do I Have to Use These 3 Juices?

A: Absolutely not! These are just the juices that I think blend really well together with each other and the fruits you’re adding in but feel free to mix, match and customize your juice choices! I bet a Cran - Raspberry juice blend would be a delicious choice instead of the regular cranberry juice.

Step 1: Calculate Potency For Your Infusion

Calculate total batch potency by entering product weight (grams), THC/THCA percentage, and CBD/CBDA percentage. Get total THC and CBD in milligrams (mg) for dosing.

(flower, wax, oil, etc)

THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is the psychoactive compound in cannabis, while THCA (tetrahydrocannabinolic acid) is its non-psychoactive precursor found in raw cannabis

CBD (cannabidiol) is a psychoactive compound in cannabis known for its potential therapeutic benefits, while CBDA (cannabidiolic acid) is the precursor to CBD found in raw cannabis, which needs to be decarboxylated (heated) to become CBD with active properties.

(ie. butter, olive oil, coconut oil, MCT oil, alcohol)
