Let’s dive into the fundamentals of cannabis-infused bliss with my Weed Brownie recipe—an homage to the OG edible that has made its mark in kitchens and pop culture alike. We're keeping it simple and straightforward, focusing on the classic delights of cannabis-infused brownies that have stood the test of time. Just like cannabis-infused butter, or cannabutter, these brownies go beyond being a mere treat—they're a versatile canvas, a kitchen essential that opens the gateway to a world of culinary possibilities.
The Origin of Weed Brownies
Weed brownies, a beloved classic among cannabis-infused edibles, have a history rooted in the counterculture movements of the 1960s and 1970s. Originating during a time when cannabis consumption took on a communal and experimental spirit, brownies became a popular medium for ingesting cannabis due to their ability to mask the distinct taste of the herb.
As the demand for alternative consumption methods grew, these brownies gained notoriety for offering a discreet yet potent way to experience the effects of cannabis. Beyond their recreational use, weed brownies became a symbol of rebellion and freedom, featured prominently in movies and TV shows as an iconic representation of cannabis-infused delight. Over the years, their popularity has endured, evolving from a clandestine indulgence to a celebrated and versatile cannabis-infused treat, enjoyed by both seasoned enthusiasts and those exploring the world of edibles for the first time.

Ingredient Substitutions
- Cocoa Powder: You can also use cacao powder which is a less processed version of cocoa powder. Also, keep in mind cacao powder won’t be as sweet as cocoa powder.
- Sugar: I used white sugar for this recipe as it was meant to be a more classic brownie recipe, however you can also used zero sugar sweeteners like monkfruit or stevia.
- Eggs: Substitute for flax egg as a vegan option.
TIPS & TRICKS
- For extra fudgy brownies, take out the brownies earlier than what the recipe calls for and let the residual heat do it’s job.
- Pack the brownies in a sealed tight glass container and store for up to 1 week on the countertop, or up to 2 weeks in the refridgerator.
- Be generous with the chocolate chip chunks! It’ll add a lovely texture to the brownies.

FAQ
Q: How strong will these brownies be?
A: The strength of the brownies depends on the potency of the cannabis butter used. If you're unsure of the dosage, it's best to start with a small portion and gauge the effects before consuming more, as the effects of edibles can take longer to kick in.
Q: Can I use milk chocolate instead of semi-sweet chocolate?
A: Yes, you can substitute semi-sweet chocolate with milk chocolate, but keep in mind that milk chocolate is sweeter, so you may want to reduce the sugar slightly to balance the flavor.
Q: How do I know when the brownies are done baking?
A: Check for doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center of the brownies. If it comes out with a few moist crumbs, the brownies are ready. For fudgier brownies, bake on the shorter side of the recommended time.
