About The Recipe
Cannabis-infused onion dip is a savoury culinary creation that combines traditional onion dip ingredients with cannabis-infused components, typically incorporating cannabis-infused butter or oil adding a measured amount of cannabinoids to the mix.
The base of the dip typically includes caramelized onions, sour cream, mayonnaise, and various seasonings, creating a rich and flavorful combination. The infusion process involves heating cannabis in a fat source, allowing the cannabinoids to bind with the fats and become bioavailable. This results in a dip that not only provides the familiar taste of onion dip but also incorporates the effects of cannabis, offering a unique and enjoyable culinary experience.
Why is onion dip a staple dip?
Onion dip is believed to have gained popularity in the United States during the 1950s or 1960s. The use of dried onion soup mix as an ingredient in onion dip recipes is often attributed to its commercialization. The mix, combined with sour cream and other ingredients, became a quick and easy way to make an onion dip.
One version of the dip's origin story suggests that the recipe was popularized by the Lipton company, which began promoting the use of its onion soup mix in creating a simple and flavorful dip. However, variations of onion dip were likely made independently in households, contributing to its widespread popularity.
Onion dip has a savoury flavour that appeals to a wide range of palates. The combination of caramelized onions, sour cream, and sometimes other seasonings creates a delicious and satisfying taste. Onion dip pairs well with various dippable items, including potato chips, pretzels, crudites, vegetable sticks, and even bread. Onion dip gained popularity in the mid-20th century, coinciding with the rise of convenience and party foods. As a result, it became a standard offering at social gatherings and contributed to its status as a classic dip.

- Chives: Green onions offer a similar mild onion flavor to chives and can be used as a substitute in most recipes. They add a fresh, crisp taste that complements the sour cream and mayonnaise mixture. Use the green parts for a milder flavor and a bit of crunch.
