About The Recipe

Cannabis-Infused Pappardelle Bolognese Pasta is a unique and indulgent dish that combines the rich flavours of traditional Italian Bolognese sauce with the addition of cannabis-infused ingredients.

The heart of the dish lies in the Bolognese sauce, a savoury and hearty concoction. Ground meat, often a blend of beef and pork, is browned to perfection, creating a flavorful base. Finely chopped onions, carrots, and celery add aromatic depth, while minced garlic infuses a hint of pungency. Tomatoes, either fresh or canned, contribute to the sauce's robust character, complemented by the richness of red wine used for deglazing. A symphony of herbs such as thyme, oregano, and bay leaves, along with a precise balance of salt and pepper, rounds out the complex flavours. The addition of broth or milk adjusts the consistency, offering a velvety and creamy texture to the sauce.

Elevating the dish to a unique level, cannabis is infused into oil or butter, becoming an integral part of the cooking process. This infusion introduces cannabinoids, such as THC or CBD, into the dish, adding a distinct layer to the flavour profile. The choice between cannabis-infused oil or butter allows for a personalized touch, catering to individual preferences and enhancing the overall culinary experience.

What is this dish?

Cannabis Infused Pappardelle Bolognese Pasta, is a dish that beautifully marries the classic flavours of Italian comfort food with a modern twist. Imagine wide and velvety pappardelle pasta, gently cradling a rich and savoury Bolognese sauce that has been elevated to new heights through the infusion of carefully selected cannabis.

The foundation of this dish lies in the meticulously crafted Bolognese sauce, a symphony of ground meats, tomatoes, aromatic vegetables, and a medley of herbs and spices. Slow-cooked to perfection, the sauce envelops each strand of pappardelle, creating a sumptuous canvas for a uniquely enhanced dining experience.

What sets this dish apart is the infusion of cannabis, carefully incorporated into the preparation process. The cannabis infusion, whether in the form of butter, oil, or another medium, adds a subtle and sophisticated layer to the overall flavour profile. Imagine delicate herbal notes intertwining with the robustness of the Bolognese, creating a nuanced and delightful palate.

The infusion of cannabis into the dish, whether through butter, oil, or another medium, introduces cannabinoids such as THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) into the meal. THC is the psychoactive compound in cannabis responsible for the "high" feeling. When cannabis is decarboxylated (heated) and infused into fats like butter or oil, the cannabinoids become active and can produce physiological and psychological effects when consumed.

Ingredient Substitutions

  • Beef Broth: Mushroom broth offers a rich, umami flavor similar to beef broth, making it an excellent vegetarian option. It enhances the depth of the sauce without the use of animal products, perfect for those seeking a plant-based alternative.
  • Parmesan: Nutritional yeast is a dairy-free alternative that provides a cheesy, nutty flavor similar to Parmesan or Pecorino Romano. It’s a great option for those who are vegan or lactose intolerant and still want a savory topping for their pasta.

TIPS & TRICKS

  • Add a generous amount of salt to the boiling water before cooking the pasta—about 1-2 tablespoons for a medium pot. The salt not only flavors the pasta itself but also helps to season the entire dish. Well-salted pasta water is essential because it infuses the pasta with flavor from the start, which enhances the overall taste of the final dish.
  • After browning the ground beef, use the reserved pasta water to deglaze the pot. This means adding the pasta water to the pot while it’s still hot to scrape up the flavorful bits stuck to the bottom. These browned bits add depth and complexity to the sauce. The starch in the pasta water also helps to thicken the sauce, giving it a silky, cohesive texture that clings better to the pasta.

FAQ

Q: Can I use a different type of pasta?

A: Yes, you can use any pasta you prefer or have on hand, such as fettuccine, tagliatelle, or even spaghetti. Just be sure to adjust the cooking time according to the type of pasta you choose.

Q: How do I prevent the cannabis butter from burning?

A: To prevent cannabis butter from burning, make sure to add it along with the olive oil. The olive oil raises the smoke point of the butter, helping it to cook without burning. Also, keep the heat at medium to medium-high and watch closely as it melts.

Q: Can I omit the wine altogether?

A: Yes, you can omit the wine if you prefer. To compensate, you can add a bit more beef broth or a splash of vinegar (such as balsamic or red wine vinegar) to maintain the acidity and richness that the wine would provide.

Step 1: Calculate Potency For Your Infusion

Calculate total batch potency by entering product weight (grams), THC/THCA percentage, and CBD/CBDA percentage. Get total THC and CBD in milligrams (mg) for dosing.

(flower, wax, oil, etc)

THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is the psychoactive compound in cannabis, while THCA (tetrahydrocannabinolic acid) is its non-psychoactive precursor found in raw cannabis

CBD (cannabidiol) is a psychoactive compound in cannabis known for its potential therapeutic benefits, while CBDA (cannabidiolic acid) is the precursor to CBD found in raw cannabis, which needs to be decarboxylated (heated) to become CBD with active properties.

(ie. butter, olive oil, coconut oil, MCT oil, alcohol)
