Salted Caramel?

The captivating amalgamation of salt and caramel in beverages, exemplified by the enticing Cannabis-Infused Salted Caramel Hot Cocoa, traces its origins to a culinary evolution aimed at balancing sweetness and enhancing flavour profiles. This trend gained momentum in the early 2000s as chefs began experimenting with the addition of salt to caramel, aiming to create a more intricate taste experience.

The inclusion of salt, typically sourced from sea salt or fleur de sel, serves to intensify the sweetness of caramel, offering a nuanced and harmonious interplay of contrasting tastes. This culinary practice has evolved into a gastronomic sensation, extending beyond its inception in high-end cuisine to permeate various beverages, desserts, and snacks. The outcome is a delightful juxtaposition of sweet and salty notes that imparts depth and sophistication to traditional treats, transforming them into indulgent and memorable experiences.

Ingredient Substitutions

  • Oat Milk: I like to use oat milk for this recipe but feel free to use whatever dairy alternative or regular dairy product you'd like. Take the infusion level up by adding my infused coconut milk recipe.
  • Marshmallows: Nothing pairs well like hot chocolate and marshmallows but some people aren’t huge fans so feel free to leave them out if you’d like. Feel free to substitute the marshmallows for my infused whipped cream recipe!
  • Chocolate shavings: These are more optional because I use them to garnish the whipped cream. If you don’t have chocolate shavings feel free to top your drink with sprinkles, coconut flakes or anything you want really!

TIPS & TRICKS

  • The more chocolate you add (infused or regular) the thicker the hot chocolate!

Step 1: Calculate Potency For Your Infusion

Calculate total batch potency by entering product weight (grams), THC/THCA percentage, and CBD/CBDA percentage. Get total THC and CBD in milligrams (mg) for dosing.

(flower, wax, oil, etc)

THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is the psychoactive compound in cannabis, while THCA (tetrahydrocannabinolic acid) is its non-psychoactive precursor found in raw cannabis

CBD (cannabidiol) is a psychoactive compound in cannabis known for its potential therapeutic benefits, while CBDA (cannabidiolic acid) is the precursor to CBD found in raw cannabis, which needs to be decarboxylated (heated) to become CBD with active properties.

(ie. butter, olive oil, coconut oil, MCT oil, alcohol)
