Where did the Passion Fruit Coconut Cocktail come from?

Passion fruit and coconut are both commonly found in tropical regions such as the Caribbean, South America, and Southeast Asia, where they have been used in various culinary and beverage recipes for centuries.

Mixologists and bartenders around the world draw inspiration from these exotic ingredients to create refreshing and flavorful cocktails. The combination of passion fruit and coconut, with perhaps a splash of rum or other spirits, creates a delightful and indulgent drink that evokes images of sunny beaches, palm trees, and warm ocean breezes.

While there may not be a single definitive origin story for the Passion Fruit Coconut Cocktail, its popularity and appeal stem from the allure of tropical flavours and the endless possibilities for creative mixology.

Ingredient Substitutions

  • Passion Fruit: If your grocery store doesn’t have any passionfruit, try checking out your local Chinatown or Asian grocery store. If you’re still out of luck, you can try using dragonfruit, mango, or pineapple instead. Although the taste won’t be the same, it will still offer the refreshing tropical taste. You’ll just have to blend up the fruit into a puree before you add it to the drink.
  • Maple Syrup: If you’re keto, then opt for a monkfruit based maple syrup, or even no added maple syrup! The fruit might be sweet enough to omit any added sugars. If you don’t have maple syrup, coconut sugar or honey will work just fine. If you want to take your infusion game to the next level, feel free to use my cannabis infused maple syrup to the mix!
  • Sparkling Water / Coconut Water: I highly recommend getting these ingredients as it does make a huge difference for the drink, but if you’re in a pinch, then opt for tap or filtered water.
  • Lime Juice: If you don’t have lime juice, lemon juice will work as well. A little bit of acidity is all this drink needs!
  • Mint Leaves: This garnish is totally optionally, and really more for decoration than anything. If you’re feeling adventurous, try muddling the mint leaves before adding it to the drink.
  • Dissolvable Cannabis Powder: If you don’t have this ingredient, you can substitute for infused maple syrup.

TIPS & TRICKS

  • Shaker: If you have one, that is going to be the best way to make this drink. But I like to keep things simple and easy so I just used a stirring spoon. I generally only use the shaker whenever I have guests over!
  • Pre-chilling the ingredients: I like to keep my ingredients cold in the fridge or pop them into the freezer for 10 minutes before making. A chilled drink is always going to taste better than a room temperature one. You can also use ice-cubes.

FAQ

Q: What if I don’t want to use coconut?

A: You don’t have to include the coconut if you don’t want to. Personally, I just find that the coconut and passionfruit pair really well together which is why I like to combine them but feel free to use plant based milk or some sort of fruit juice instead of the coconut water.

Q: How long will this mocktail take to kick in?

A: Cannabis beverages are considered to be cannabis edibles, which means that they have to be ingested and processed by your liver before heading up to your blood brain barrier. The onset of cannabis edibles can range from person to person, and can also be impacted by a variety of factors, such as one’s metabolism. Generally cannabis infused bevies can take anywhere from 30 minutes all the way to 2 hours for the onset, and the experience can last between 4 to 12 hours.

Q: How many drinks does this recipe make?

A: This recipe only makes 1 portion but feel free to double or triple the recipe as needed so you can share it with all of your closest friends!

Step 1: Calculate Potency For Your Infusion

Calculate total batch potency by entering product weight (grams), THC/THCA percentage, and CBD/CBDA percentage. Get total THC and CBD in milligrams (mg) for dosing.

(flower, wax, oil, etc)

THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is the psychoactive compound in cannabis, while THCA (tetrahydrocannabinolic acid) is its non-psychoactive precursor found in raw cannabis

CBD (cannabidiol) is a psychoactive compound in cannabis known for its potential therapeutic benefits, while CBDA (cannabidiolic acid) is the precursor to CBD found in raw cannabis, which needs to be decarboxylated (heated) to become CBD with active properties.

(ie. butter, olive oil, coconut oil, MCT oil, alcohol)
